This paper describes the development of a firm-level global panel dataset for public and private companies based on the administrative microdataset ORBIS, provided commercially by Bureau van Dijk Electronic Publishing (BvD). rmonline.Firm-level data on productivity, financial activity and firms' international linkages have become essential for research in the fields of macro, international finance and growth. RM was the first web based company registration system and the first online information supplier to commit to Internet delivery, launching in June 1997 making it the longest running web-based business information and registration company. These complement the company reports in Orbis and are particularly pertinent for compliance and due diligence research.
